Tea anyone???

PG Tips is a British company that makes tea. Boodles jewelers (an exclusive jeweller based in the UK) made a diamond teabag to celebrate PG Tips 75th birthday. The tea bag was hand-crafted using 280 diamonds. The tea bag is valued at around $14,000. I knew the British took their tea seriously, but now I know they’re plain crazy about it!

The remainder of my birthday list can be found here…

Lead in the paint???

The latest recall of China made products can be found here http://www.service.mattel.com/us/recall/default.asp?recall_id=52430.
This one involves Fisher Price toys made for Nickelodeon and Sesame Street mostly. That’s probably the only reason why we are not affected by the recall. Emma’s too little to have “character” toys mostly. She doesn’t know what any of them are because she doesn’t watch t.v. — except for her Pampers diapers which brand the babies with Sesame Street characters from the moment of their birth which has always bothered me. There’s this whole subset of people who’s life revolves around trying to get children addicted to t.v. so that they can make money. It’s not to teach the kids anything, it’s not to make parent’s lives a little easier, it’s simply based on money. Which is also the reason why alot of what people by is made in China or other overseas places. They do not have to pay their workers a fair wage. Big surprise that when you cheap out buying something (whether it’s the consumer or the company hiring overseas workers), you get a cheap product in return. With questionable quality. That’s what all these recalls are about. Whatever happened to locally made. To supporting the guy around the corner instead of the conglomerate around the world. It’s next to impossible to even find locally made products. Something here has to change. Our children’s lives are clearly at risk. Continue reading

What are we teaching our kids anyways?

Well, I finally got Emma to sleep (I hope!). After rubbing her back, holding her hand, singing and generally doing anything that I could think of to get her asleep. Needless to say that I had plenty of time to sit and consider things… In this case, my choice of a song. I have always sung her “Hush Little Baby” most of the time (mainly because it is the one I seem to massacre the least). I am starting to think that one of these days, Emma is going to call me on all these promises of billy goats and a horse and cart, and then I am in trouble. I may have to change it to “Grandma’s going to buy you…” But seriously, who ever thought that this song was a good idea? Yeah, we’ll just teach her that we will keep thowing money at it until things are OK… Seems like the wrong idea to teach them. Still, I guess it is better than “hushaby baby” where “the bough breaks and down will come baby”. No wonder Emma has problems sleeping some nights!

I used to always sing “Tender Shepard” to Chris and Joe, but I have never gotten the melody to work with my voice (or visa versa). I still sing it sometimes to Emma, just because, but I still suck at it. Continue reading

Stupid Zellers commercial

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jFFJ8ifgj8

I’ve been obsessed with this Zellers commercial lately. It’s stuck in my head. It’s just the alphabet — Zellers has everything from A to Z. They show every letter making the letter shape with something they sell.
A = Animals
B = Blue Jeans
C = Cupcakes
D = Dishes
E = Electronics
F = Forks
G = Glasses
H = Hot Wheels
I = Ivory Soap
J = Jell-O
K = Kleenex
L = Lipstick
M = Mugs
N = Nylons
O = Oven Mitts
P = Pillows
Q = Q-Tips
R = Red, Rib neck t-Shirts
S = Soother
T = Toasters
U = Underwear
V = V-Neck T-shirts
W = Watches
X = X-Box
Y = Yo-Yo’s
Z = ZELLERS!
They don’t sell cupcakes! What the hell…
I couldn’t figure out N for the longest time for some reason. Do not (I REPEAT DO NOT) let this song get stuck in your head. You will never ever get it out again. It’s way worse than anything else. Continue reading
