It seems as though the weather forecast here in Canada is always prediction more doom (snow storms) and gloom (literally, gloom and low temperatures). The economic forecast on a global scale is even worse. So many companies are on the brink of collapse while many others have already teetered over the edge. Now, more than ever, people really need to understand how to mange their money. This is the greenest lawn mower I’ve ever seen and will even give you quite the work out while using it!  Better than electric, it’s human powered.  Better than a push mower because it uses more muscles.  That’s right, a one of a kind, unicycle lawn mower.  I love how you can get training wheels to make your kids do it or ride it off a bike ramp to trim the trees.  The seller is very motivated and creative!  You’ll have all your eco-friends drooling with envy.  They’ll drool so much you won’t even need to water the lawn!  lol

Oh, I have really known some girls in my time that could have used some pants like these.  Is this like a chastity belt for your dog??  I’ve been thinking about prostituting my new puppy.  Oh, I mean offering stud service to responsible pet owners who would need to be thoroughly checked out before hand.  These little pants would sure put a stop to that!  The whole idea has me sort of weirded out.  Although my puppy clearly wants to get his groove on.  Or at least he wanted to last night with my fuzzy blanket I was sitting with on the couch…ewwwww!  He used to be so cute. lol  I guess that just shows you — all guys think about the same thing, regardless of species they’re all dogs!  (jk)

The world is thankfully getting a little green-er everyday.  As consumers, we need to remember that our buying power brings substantial privileges with it.  As a green consumer, I demand green products with recycled content, use of organics, less packaging, less chemicals, alternative energy sources, local products, etc. If franchises want my business and the business of people like me, they have to keep up with the times.  I will not buy coffee from anywhere that serves it in a styrofoam cup.  I always bring my own mug wherever I go.  I will not allow things I buy to be put in plastic bags.  Again, I bring my own reuseable bags with me.  Companies need to have a green initiatives section on their website and information available in the store to keep customers informed as to what they’re doing to improve and change the way that business is done.  Everything boils down to the all mighty dollar in the end.  If green is profitable, companies will change their ways.  We cannot allow them to continue to do business in old patterns that pollute our bodies, minds and earth.  Ensure that your money is going to stores that are going green!

There comes a time in every piece of furniture’s life when the decision must be made whether to throw it away or to try to make over what you have.  It’s amazing what can be done by refinishing or repainting a wooden piece.  An even easier and more significant make-over can be achieved with re-upholstering furniture.  Even an amateur can re-upholster something easy like a dining room chair seat cushion.  You just unscrew the seat from the wooden frame.  Cut your fabric so that there is about a 3″ – 4″ overlap, depending on the thickness of the seat cushion.  Lay the fabric on the floor with the good side on the bottom.  Place the cushion on the fabric, ensuring that it is centered in the middle of the fabric if there is a pattern.  Fold it onto the chair in the middle of each side and secure in place with a pneumatic stapler.  Continue this on all four sides, pulling tautly as you go.  Once you have a staple in place in all four middles, continue stapling the fabric in place on all four sides leaving only the corners.  The corners can be easily stapled down once they have been folded in a similar matter to how a present’s ends are wrapped.  Turn it over when the fabric has been secured and look at how great it looks now!  Reattach it with the screws removed earlier and voila, a new chair!

Online ads contain some of the weirdest things that you would ever (or could never) imagine.  Looking to get back at your ex?  Why not make a rug out of his t-shirts and treat it badly.  That’ll show him!  And it also makes for great upcycled living as well.  First, you don’t kill an actual human being which, come to think of it, might be good for the planet but very bad for you if you end up in jail.  Second, you re-use the t-shirts that would ordinarily be cut up or burned and thrown away.  It’s best to prevent unneccessary waste accumulation.  Third, you get something useful out of what would normally be trash.  This idea is good all around — perhaps we should do this with more of our ex’s belongings that get left behind…

Where I live here in Canada, there was a huge blizzard on Saturday night. It’s the middle spring and there’s over a foot of snow falling with more to come. It was, coincidentally, the same day we got a new puppy. So much for long walks in the park for our little pooch. It leads me to search the internet, reading sites like TMZ, etc. to see the beautiful boutique hotels that the stars are staying at.

Many of the higher end hotels, and even many of the middle price range ones are implementing green policies as a travel incentive to eco-conscious travellers.  Hotels, in particular, use a huge amount of water, electricity and resources that can easily be cut back on.  Some are going “light green” by getting more efficient front load washers and dryers that have energy star ratings.  Some are going “moss green” by implementing a chemical free cleaning policy to all their room cleaners.  There are many eco-friendly cleaners on the market at comparable prices to more traditional cleaners that work just as well.  Even better, you can easily make your own cleaners for pennies on the dollar of more traditional cleaners.  Some hotels are going “forest green” by upcycling containers such as wine casks or even decomissioned jumbo jets for the basis of their hotels.  The point is that travellers now have many choices when choosing accomodations.  The more consumers make green choices, the more lucrative green policies will be for all types of businesses.  So when you choose a hotel to stay at, choose wisely, the earth may depend on it!

The new financial realities of the recession are setting in and people are beginning to realize that cutting back is a necessity. Some bills are easier to cut back on than others. Cell phones are definitely one of the areas where deals can definitely be had. Sprint phones, for instance, can often be got for free if you sign up for a new contract.  You can even get special deals on your monthly rates if you shop around.  Some bills can’t really be cut back on such as property tax or tuition so bills that can be lowered really need to become a focus.  It’s amazing how much money can be saved for some things if you take the time to look into what different companies offer.  The internet can be a great resource for this research because you can get all the facts without leaving the house (and spending more money on gas!).  Make sure you include some time looking at better deals when you’re surfing the web.
