Bengt Brummer is a design student in Stockholm who has come up with a great concept for a new disposable plate. The name for this sustainable disposable is “ufo” which is very indicative of the appearance of the plate. It may just be responsible for some of those fuzzy images of space crafts floating across the sky. Maybe it was someone who tossed the plate when they were done eatting. That is exactly what you are supposed to do with it!
The plate is made of guar gum, agar agar, potato starch and bird seed. You can pack these plates to go for a picnic in the forest, eat your lunch and then throw it into the forest where it will fulfill it’s second purpose as a bird feeder.
The plate is made to withstand stand use so you don’t have to worry about the acidity of your balsamic vinegar dressing on your salad eatting through the plate while you’re using it. At the same time, it will easily break up and be eatten by birds once you’re done with it.
Great concept for disposable plates by a student who uses his education in both culinary skills and design skills to create viable links between the two. I think that up and comers such as Brummer really need to be kept an eye on for their fresh, innovative and creative design ideas that could really make a difference.
