I ended up with an extra package of these wipes after winning a contest and receiving them as a gift so I’ve decided to give them away to you!! What are they?? Well, they’re cloths called Bummas that you can use instead of buying the disposable bum wipes. They are super soft, 100% cotton (unfortunately not organic), extremely absorbent and can be reused over and over.
Commercial wipes are full of chemicals such as alcohol that can dry out the skin. Even alcohol free ones have added fragrances and such that can cause a babe’s sensitive area to act up. They lead to tons of waste ending up in landfills and empty packaging in recycling bins. Bummas can replace all of that quite simply.
Just wet them a little with plain old water and voila! The manufacturer’s also claim that they help to prevent diaper rash when you use them to dry the area before rediapering as well. This means no talcum powder (which is bad for kids), ointments or lotions are necessary and no painful rashes will errupt to make for a cranky baby. Good news all around!!
Once they’re no longer in diapers, these wipes are still super handy to have around. Let’s face it — kids are just plain messy! There really isn’t such a thing as too many face cloths kicking around. You definitely won’t be disappointed in these!
Wanna win them??

Purchase a composter to reduce your households waste. You can put any organic material in it like apple cores, banana peels, etc. Then use the compost to fertilize your garden! It’s a win, win situation. Also, please please please stop using plastic bags! I just watched a video on it and they are killing birds, fish, sea turtles, and cattle. Use fabric eco friendly bags

We grow our own product whenever possible. It’s fun, frugal and earth friendly
We try to use tote bags instead of using plastic bags from stores. I also carry a reusable cup in my car for sodas and coffee.
buy with an eye for re-using… If given a choice between 2 products packaged… which packaging could you find another use for easily?
We do not use paper towels… I cut up old t-shirtd to wash faces and hands….. We also use the the other side of paper in copy machine and for coloring on
Swap items of need with friends and family so you can reduce the need to buy more.
take things we don’t need to a shelter or ministry for others to use

Start a compost pile in your back yard. There are lots of compostable items you’d never even think of like lint from the dryer.

We go by the “if it doesn’t smell bad yet and it’s stainfree then it doesn’t need to be laundered!” Doesn’t apply to undergarments but we try to use pants/jeans and towels at least twice before they’re laundered.
I’d love to hear more talk about everday ways of being green honestly. I don’t really have a tip of my own.
family friendly tip: instead of buying books and magazines reduce the amount of paper that you consume and borrow from friends or the library!
Plug several electronic items into a power strip and turn off the power to that strip whenever you’re not in the room. It’s good for the earth and your wallet.

Growing your own garden is green and a ton of fun for families!
My family and I now share a subscription to our local newspaper with a neighbor. When they are done with their morning paper, they deliver it to us and we read it later in the afternoon. We then take the papers to be recycled. It saves money as well as saving paper!
My husband shaves with a straight razor and I bring my own bags to the grocery store

Buy in bulk, packaging in small products is sometimes a large waste.
We buy in bulk and seperate all our meat or veggies (we reuse the veggie bags), I send hubs off to work with containers for his food instead of baggies, and we’ve been putting our laundry out on the line for the past three months.

My family friendly tip is to use cloth diapers! It saves money and space in landfills!
Our family is doing our part for the environment by using cloth diapers for the newest addition to our family who was born 2/9/10. The thought of putting thousands of diapers into the landfills did not sit well with me and my husband and we feel good about our decision to go green and go cloth!
We always use cold water to wash our clothes in; we also never waste water. If we turn a tap on and have to wait for hot water we save the cold water to water the plants!

I keep the heat down and wear a sweater during the day when I’m the only one home. I also walk the kids to school and back instead of driving.
We use clothe bags at the grocery story. I find it much easier to pack things around this way, as well as using less plastic.
I’d love some garden tips for box growing, as we have limited space and experience but would like to start growing at least a bit of our own food.

My tip is to wash dishes with a bowl full of water in the sink rather than running the water the whole time.
We use a rainbarrel to capture rain water and water our flowers.
