Now that Easter is finally over, you probably have tons of empty egg cartons sitting around waiting to be recycled. Okay, well maybe just one or two. Whatever. Here’s some ideas on re-using them instead of recycling them.
The cardboard egg cartons are great for kids crafts. They hold the paint really well so they can easily be painted any color. Like pink with a string tied to it for a pig’s nose. Or a whole bunch of green ones glued together for the lochness monster. Sky’s the limit here!
The cardboard egg cartons are also great to start seedlings in. This not only re-uses the egg carton, it saves you from buying and consuming the plastic seed kits. And when the seedlings are ready to be transplanted outside, you don’t even have to take them out of the egg cells. Just plant the cardboard along with the seedling.
The styrofoam ones (which I really don’t recommend for our planet’s sake) or plastic ones can be used for sorting and storing objects. Anything from a change sorter to holding the tiny lego pieces to separating screws and nails.
The styrofoam and plastic ones can also be used as a palette for painting. It’s easy to squirt a bit of each color into the separate cells and mix them on the lid. Let your creativity blossom!
Another idea is to use the styrofoam or plastic ones as emergency ice trays when you run out of ice at your next bash. Summer is coming. Eventually.
